Mental Health Counseling in Oklahoma
Starting counseling can look different for everyone.
You may already know what you want to work on, or you may simply know that something in your life doesn’t feel the way you want it to.
Our team works with individuals, couples, and families experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress, anger, relationship difficulties, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, co-occurring concerns, and past experiences that continue to affect daily life. Counseling provides a space to better understand what is happening, identify patterns that may be contributing to current difficulties, develop healthier ways of coping, and work toward meaningful change.
What to Expect
Your first sessions focus on understanding what brings you in, what has been happening in your life, and what you would like to be different.
Together, you and your therapist will identify concerns and goals and determine an approach that fits your needs. Depending on what brings you to counseling, sessions may focus on understanding thoughts, emotions, and behavior patterns; developing coping and emotional-regulation skills; processing difficult experiences; improving communication and relationships; establishing healthier boundaries; or working through life changes and stress.
Your goals help guide treatment, and the focus can change as your needs and circumstances change.
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy provides one-on-one support for adults experiencing emotional, behavioral, relationship, or life concerns. Sessions address anxiety, depression, stress, grief, trauma, anger, relationship difficulties, life transitions, self-esteem, coping, or other concerns affecting daily functioning and well-being.
Treatment is guided by your individual needs and goals and incorporates evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured therapy used to address distress associated with traumatic or difficult life experiences. EMDR focuses on helping the brain process experiences that continue to contribute to distressing emotions, thoughts, physical reactions, or patterns in the present.
EMDR may be incorporated into treatment when clinically appropriate and based on the needs and goals identified in therapy.
Trauma-Informed Therapy
Trauma-informed therapy recognizes that past experiences can influence emotional responses, relationships, coping patterns, and a person’s sense of safety in the present.
Treatment emphasizes safety, trust, collaboration, choice, and respect for the client’s pace. Therapy focuses on understanding the effects of difficult experiences, strengthening coping and emotional-regulation skills, and addressing patterns that continue to interfere with daily life.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy examines the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It can help identify patterns of thinking or responding that may be contributing to emotional distress or making situations more difficult to manage.
CBT includes learning to challenge unhelpful thought patterns, developing coping and problem-solving skills, and practicing different behavioral responses.
Mental Health Counseling Services
Family Counseling
Family counseling addresses concerns that affect relationships and functioning within the family system. Therapy addresses communication difficulties, conflict, changing family roles, boundaries, parenting concerns, stressful transitions, or the impact of behavioral health concerns on family relationships.
Sessions provide an opportunity to identify interaction patterns, improve communication and problem-solving, and develop healthier ways of responding to one another.
Couples Counseling
Couples counseling provides a structured setting for partners to address concerns within their relationship. Common areas of focus include communication, recurring conflict, trust, emotional connection, boundaries, major life transitions, and patterns that contribute to relationship distress.
Therapy focuses on helping partners better understand their interactions, communicate more effectively, and work toward mutually identified relationship goals.
Anger Management Counseling
Anger management counseling focuses on understanding the thoughts, emotions, triggers, and behavioral patterns associated with anger. Treatment includes identifying early warning signs, examining patterns that contribute to escalation, developing emotional-regulation and communication skills, and practicing healthier responses to conflict and frustration.
The goal is not to eliminate anger, but to develop safer and more effective ways of understanding, expressing, and responding to it.
Care Built Around You
Counseling is not one-size-fits-all.
People come to counseling with different concerns, experiences, strengths, circumstances, and goals. Treatment should reflect those differences rather than follow the same approach for everyone.
We use a collaborative, client-centered approach to develop treatment goals and determine which methods are appropriate for your needs. As treatment progresses, goals and approaches may be adjusted based on your progress, changing circumstances, and what is most useful to you.
Our team draws from evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches based on the client’s needs and treatment goals. Depending on the clinical need, this may include CBT, DBT-informed skills, ACT, EMDR, MRT, Seeking Safety, CRA, and other appropriate therapeutic methods.
Our approach includes:
- Collaborative, client-centered care
- Culturally responsive and inclusive care that respects your background, identity, values, and experiences
- Evidence-based therapeutic approaches selected according to individual needs
- Practical coping and emotional-regulation skills that can be used outside of therapy
- Individualized treatment goals that can evolve throughout the therapeutic process
